We want everyone to feel comfortable when they visit our hospitals and to have all the information they need.
That's why we were so delighted to welcome People First Merseyside to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre - Liverpool (CCC-Liverpool) recently to find out more about what we do and help us make sure the hospital provides the best possible environment for people with learning disabilities.
People First Merseyside is a self-advocacy organisation run by and for people with learning disabilities.
Members came for a full tour of CCC-Liverpool. They visited a ward and our chemotherapy and radiotherapy departments to learn about cancer care and to see where patients have their treatment. We showed them some of our radiotherapy treatment machines. They also saw a CT scanner and heard how pictures are taken inside people's bodies to help us treat their cancer.
Ruth Selvan, Head of Patient Experience at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said:
It was fantastic to hear what the group thought of the hospital and how we can make it even more welcoming for people with learning disabilities. We want to say a huge thank-you to all our new friends at People First Merseyside for coming to visit.
