Work has officially begun on a new Maggie’s cancer support centre in Liverpool, bringing vital psychological, emotional and practical support closer to people affected by cancer across North Merseyside and neighbouring areas.

The new centre is being built at the junction of Daulby Street and Prescot Street, close to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. It has been fully commissioned, designed and funded by a £5 million donation from the Steve Morgan Foundation, and is expected to open next year.

Joan Spencer, Chief Executive of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre said: “Cancer affects people in many different ways. Psychological, emotional and practical support is vitally important, alongside expert, compassionate cancer care and treatment. We have worked closely with Maggie’s Wirral for many years and know how valued they are by our patients and all those affected by cancer. The new Maggie’s in Liverpool will make these services much more accessible to people in North Merseyside and neighbouring areas, and we look forward to it opening.”

The new centre will be the second Maggie’s in Merseyside, joining Maggie’s Wirral, which opened in the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral in 2021. We have a strong relationship with Maggie’s, working together to support our patients and their loved ones, including through the ‘Getting Started’ prehabilitation sessions in Wirral and Liverpool for people preparing for cancer treatment.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 16 July 2026 and was attended by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s Chief Operating Officer Tori Young. It marked an important step towards bringing this much needed support service to people across the region.
