The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is recognised by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) as an ESMO Designated Centre of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care.

ESMO Designated Centre status is awarded to hospitals that achieve rigorous standards demonstrating that their specialist cancer care and palliative care services work together as one to support patients in a highly-integrated way.

JACIE accreditation logo.jpgJACIE accreditation

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has JACIE accreditation to carry out stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies such as CAR-T therapy.

The Joint Accreditation Committee ISCT-Europe and EBMT (JACIE) is Europe’s only official accreditation body in the field of haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and cellular therapy (CT). It promotes high-quality patient care and medical and laboratory practice through a profession-led, voluntary accreditation scheme.

MQEM.jpgMacmillan Quality Environment Mark

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Aintree holds a Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM), an award which champions cancer environments that go above and beyond to create welcoming and friendly spaces for patients.

A successful MQEM environment is welcoming and accessible, respectful of privacy and dignity, supportive of the users' comfort and well-being, and gives choice and control to service users.

MASCC-Designated Centre of Excellence in Supportive Care in Cancer

MASCC supportive care logo.pngThe Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC)'s designated centre of excellence programme recognises cancer centres that are successfully integrating oncology and supportive services. It is an accreditation from MASCC for upholding high standards and providing comprehensive services in supportive cancer care.

Supportive care aims to help people with cancer to enjoy the best possible quality of life at all stages, including managing symptoms and helping them get the maximum effect from their treatment.

TJCOE.pngTessa Jowell Centre of Excellence

The Tessa Jowell Centre of Excellence designation recognises and awards adult neuro-oncology centres that provide excellent treatment, care and research opportunities for patients with brain tumours. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and our partners in the Liverpool Network – The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre – were awarded Centre of Excellence status in 2021, following expert assessment and patient feedback.

Being a Centre of Excellence allows our patients and their families to feel confident that they are receiving the best possible care currently available in the NHS.

Radiation

ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems

Our Radiation Services division has been accredited to this standard since 1998; the scope of the certification covers the delivery of radiotherapy, radiology and physics services.

Compliance with the standard requires a commitment to quality and safety, evidence of monitoring of quality and resulting improvements to the service provided to patients.

Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) 2021 v1.1

In September 2024 our Radiology Department – which operates at our Liverpool and Wirral hospitals – was awarded the QSI Quality Mark by the Royal College of Radiologists and the College of Radiographers.

The department underwent a rigorous peer review process which evaluated the service against the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI). The QSI sets out the standards for design, delivery and development of safe, effective and patient-centred imaging services.

Our department has been accredited to this standard since 2020.
