England
People who live in England and have been diagnosed with cancer can be referred to us for their NHS care.
As a specialist cancer hospital, you will usually need to be referred to us from another hospital. You can ask them to refer you to us for your cancer care.
People with suspected or diagnosed blood cancer can be referred to our Haemato-Oncology (blood cancer) team by their GP.
You can also ask to be referred to us for a second opinion if you would like one of our specialists to review your diagnosis and treatment by another hospital. You can ask your GP to refer you to us for a second opinion.
Wales
People who live in Wales and have been diagnosed with cancer can be referred to us in some cases. We might need to get approval from your local area before we can assess or treat you.
Isle of Man
We work very closely with Manx Care and Noble’s Hospital. People who live in the Isle of Man and have been diagnosed with cancer will be referred to us if they need treatment other than surgery – for example, chemotherapy and other cancer drugs, radiotherapy, stem cell transplant.

Second opinion
If you are not already a patient here:
You can ask your consultant to refer you to us for a second opinion if you would like one of our specialists to review your diagnosis and treatment by another hospital.
If you are already a patient here:
If you would like a second opinion on your treatment and care plan, that’s no problem at all. Your existing consultant can refer you for a second opinion from another specialist in our team or from a specialist in another hospital.
Referral for clinical trials
We are a research-active hospital and the4re are many opportunities for patients to take part in research. We offer a wide range of clinical trials of new treatments including some that might not be available elsewhere.
If you are not already a patient here:
You will need to be referred to us by your consultant or your GP if you are not already a patient of ours and would like to take part in a clinical trial here.
Unfortunately we cannot offer research studies to overseas patients – we are exploring if this might be possible in the future.
If you are already a patient here:
Your consultant or specialist nursing team will tell you about any studies that you might be suitable for.
Private referrals and second opinions
Clatterbridge Private Clinic accepts referrals and requests for second opinions at its Liverpool and Wirral sites.
