We are delighted to announce that The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has been selected as part of the second wave of applicants for Advanced Foundation Trust (AFT) status. Our inclusion in this early wave recognises our consistently high-quality care and excellent performance. We were in Segment 1 (best performing) of the NHS National Oversight Framework for every quarter of 2025/26.

The Advanced Foundation Trust (AFT) programme sets out to reinvigorate and reinvent the foundation trust model for today’s health system, as set out in the 10 Year Health Plan for England (published in July 2025). Advanced Foundation Trusts will have greater freedom to make decisions, plan services, accelerate improvements for patients, and work with partners to improve health in the communities we serve. This is very much in line with our ambitions at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre to transform the lives  of people living with and beyond cancer by delivering compassionate, world-class care and advancing groundbreaking research.

Securing Advanced Foundation Trust status requires successful assessment as part of the AFT programme. We will be working closely with NHS England during this process to demonstrate how we meet the assessment criteria.
