A Clatterbridge Registrar has been appointed as one of two Lead Early Career Researchers for the UK Blood Cancer Research Network (UKBCRN) Lymphoma Research Group, in a role which aims to develop the next generation of haematology researchers.

Dr Lisa Jeffers, a first-year ST3 Haematology Registrar at CCC, will help shape the UKBCRN’s Early Career Researcher (ECR) network in the two-year national role.

She will support the development of the network and contribute to the strategic direction of the UKBCRN from an early career perspective ensuring researchers from a broad range of backgrounds can access opportunities and contribute to the future of UK blood cancer research.

Dr Jeffers won the British Society for Haematology Crucible Prize in 2024 and previously held a Clinical Research Fellow post at The Christie between 2024 and 2025 before rejoining Clatterbridge where she had previously been a junior clinical fellow.

Dr Jeffers said she was passionate about the impact of research on both patient outcomes and medical training and added that clinical research is fundamental to improving treatments and care.

She said: “I am really excited to see what we can achieve to broaden access to clinical research for other registrars in the UK. This is how we improve treatments and outcomes for our patients, so I can't think of a better role to be involved in.”

Prof Andy Pettitt, Consultant Haematologist at CCC and Ronald Finn Professor of Experimental Medicine at Liverpool University, said: “It is fantastic news that Lisa has secured this prestigious national research leadership position.

“Her appointment adds further to Liverpool’s contribution to blood cancer research and will help to ensure the UK has a steady pipeline of researchers studying new treatments and ways to care for blood cancer patients. I am sure she will excel in her role.”
