Paddington Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has reached its second major milestone as welcoming the 50,000th patient to receive an examination at the centre since it opened almost two years ago.

Debbie Smith, hailing from Dingle, was the 50,000th patient to be seen at the Paddington CDC after she attended for a scan on the 26th June 2025.

Debbie said: “Thank you to the team at Paddington CDC for helping me this morning with my scan. It has been a great experience, and the staff have also been great. I was in and out really quickly, so quickly that I almost missed my photo opportunity as the 50,000th patient!

“I’m hoping I get my results soon so that I know what’s going on before my holiday and then hopefully I can relax a little,” said Debbie.

Thanks to the additional availability of diagnostic appointments that Paddington CDC provides, the team was able to move Debbie’s appointment up to accommodate her upcoming holiday.

The Paddington CDC can be found in its convenient location at the former Rutherford Cancer Centre North West building and is owned and operated by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside.

The centre offers CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Phlebotomy testing for a number of conditions all in a calm environment away from the busy rush of a hospital setting.

Since the centre opened in 2023, they have been able to provide over:

  • 12,000 CT scans
  • 10,500 MRI scans
  • 13,500 Ultrasound scans
  • 13,500 Phlebotomy tests

In addition, Paddington CDC is leading the way in mutual aid support and is now well established within Cheshire and Merseyside for services in both Radiology and Phlebotomy, providing additional appointment slots for Trusts across the region and more options for patients to be seen quicker.

Michelle Moody, Site manager, Paddington CDC said: “We are so happy to be able to welcome Debbie as our 50,000th patient and celebrate this moment with her. The team have been working so hard over the past couple of years to help us achieve this milestone and we couldn’t help as many patients as we do without their hard work and dedication.

"We are looking forward to helping even more patients in the years to come as we continue to improve on and expand our services.”

Joan Spencer, Chief Executive, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust said: “The Paddington CDC continues to go from strength to strength and this new milestone is testament to the incredible work of all the staff.

We are very proud of the work that the centre does to ensure patients are receiving their diagnostic tests as quickly and as conveniently as possible. We are also proud of the role Paddington CDC plays in supporting our partner Trusts and patients across Cheshire and Merseyside to bring down waiting times through the mutual aid scheme. I am looking forward to the next milestone when we welcome 100,000th patient.”

Paddington CDC is part of the wider CDC network which includes 10 CDCs across the Cheshire and Merseyside region. Since the first CDC opened in Cheshire and Merseyside in 2021, CDCs have provided diagnostic tests for over 1 million patients.
