Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) are hugely important to ensuring our patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust receive the best care, which is why we’re going to be recruiting for a number of people to fill these kinds of roles over the coming weeks.

To help you understand what this rewarding job involves and the type of people we’re looking for, we’re profiling some of the people who have become HCSWs at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Eliesha, 30, works as a HCSW on the Chemotherapy Unit at our hospital in Liverpool.

Describing her job as “the best job she’s ever had”, Eliesha loves the fact she gets to learn new skills every day by working alongside nurses, consultants and pharmacists.

Eliesha’s daily tasks include observations, PICCs and Ports, phlebotomy, clerical duties, and of course, chatting with patients and making sure they are comfortable.

Eliesha, who lives in Kirby and started working at the Trust in November 2019, said: “The role is really patient-focused, which I love. You get to see them right through their journey; from pre-assessment to end of treatment when they get to ring the bell – which is just fabulous.

“The team know every patient by name and they strive for excellence every single day. I actually get goose bumps watching how committed my colleagues are in their job. Their dedication is inspiring and I am really proud to work here.

“It is a fantastic place to work and I am really looking forward to developing my healthcare career at Clatterbridge.”
