Researche
The event was designed to showcase the wide range of research carried out at Clatterbridge, discuss how studies can be made easier to carry out and encourage more Trust staff to take part in research.
After a welcome by organiser Dr Shaveta Mehta, Deputy Director of Clinical Research, and hearing from a patient who has taken part in three clinical trials at Clatterbridge over 11 years, the event was opened by CCC Chief Executive Dr Liz Bishop, who spoke about the world-class research undertaken at CCC and how it was underpinned by the Trust Strategy.
CCC Medical Director Dr Sheena Khanduri highlighted the research successes across the Trust, including in immunology and cancer vaccines.
Consultants, professors, clinical fellows and research staff then spoke about their own areas of work, with ideas of how future studies can be progressed and how to break down barriers which challenge the research process.
There were also discussion workshops to talk through some of the themes which were brought out during the day, including what are research priorities at CCC and what was needed to progress them.
Dr Gillian Heap, Director of Research Operations, said: “The first annual research day was a tremendous success and I’d like to thank everyone who attended and participated in the day.
“It was so valuable to come together as a research team to highlight what we are doing well at Clatterbridge and also discuss the challenges we face in our aim to enhance research so that, ultimately, we can improve outcomes for the patients we serve across the Trust and further cancer research generally.”
