NHS England Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard made a visit to Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool for a tour of part of the hospital and to meet staff and volunteers.

While Amanda was at CCC-L she was filmed by TV news, speaking about a new national NHS drive to catch cancer early by launching pilot projects that would see community pharmacies refer people into cancer services.

Amanda was met by CCC Chief Executive Liz Bishop and Chief Operating Officer Joan Spencer and talked with staff, including at the PharmaC dispensary.

She visited parts of the hospital, including Chemotherapy, and then talked with volunteers.

She chatted with Sister Zita, Anne Kirk, Angela Denson, Tony Powell, Luke Butler and Wayne Hutton and heard about why they enjoy volunteering at CCC-L and how they support our staff and are able to add a further personal touch for the patients.

Amanda later joined another separate delegation which had visited CCC-L to discuss innovation at the trust and across Cheshire and Merseyside through Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance and the Innovation Agency.

Liz said: “It was great to be able to show Amanda this amazing building and meet some of our wonderful staff and volunteers.

“We were able to have a brief tour, including to Chemotherapy, and she was especially pleased to be able to speak to Anne, Angela, Tony, Luke, Wayne and Sister Zita.

“Our volunteers do a great job and they told her how they and the rest of their team look forward to helping our patients on a daily basis."
