Patients and the public are being given an insight into the work of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s Research & Innovation Directorate through a new newsletter.

The Research Matters newsletter is designed to celebrate how patients are involved in helping in research at the The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust (CCC), inform them of new projects and initiatives and show them how they can participate further.

The quarterly newsletter has been initiated by R&I’s Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum, which was established last November to ensure that care and services in the Directorate are shaped by patient feedback and insight.

Dr Gillian Heap, Director of Research & Innovation Operations, said: “CCC has long recognised the importance of patient and public participation in routine and research activities, including clinical trials.

“In 2019-2020, we launched a comprehensive Patient Involvement Strategy to ensure that our care and services take into account patient and public experience.

“In addition, CCC is committed to involving diverse socio-economic groups of patients and public in its research activities. Such involvement provides a wealth of insight, perspectives, expertise and experience.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to launch this newsletter with the help of the PPI Forum. It is testament to the importance of patient involvement in shaping what we do.”
