We are delighted to announce that Tori Young has been appointed our Interim Chief Operating Officer from 31st March 2025, following a formal recruitment process.
She will succeed Chief Operating Officer Joan Spencer who, as previously announced, will become Interim Chief Executive when Chief Executive Liz Bishop retires after 42 years in the NHS.
As Chief Operating Officer, Tori will be the executive director responsible for our operational planning and performance, emergency planning (EPRR) and providing leadership of our clinical and operational services.
Tori joined The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre as Director of Pharmacy in February 2022 and took on the additional role of Deputy Chief Operating Officer in April 2024.
She has extensive leadership experience across the Cheshire and Merseyside healthcare system. After qualifying as a pharmacist and completing her pre-reg training, Tori spent 18 years at Wirral University Teaching Hospital in roles including aseptics, haematology, women’s health, medicines management and medicines safety as her career progressed into management.
Before moving to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, she was Deputy Chief Pharmacist at Warrington and Halton Hospitals.
Over the last three years, Tori has overseen significant transformation in The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre's pharmacy services including increasing aseptic production, the launch of a full pharmacy logistics service and the introduction of new technology including Omnicells and VHP isolators.
Outside of work, Tori has a busy family life with her husband and two children. In her spare time, she plays hockey and loves surfing and bodyboarding off Anglesey.
Joan Spencer, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, said:
Tori is an outstanding leader with all the right qualities and experience for this position, not least of which is her commitment to patients and continually improving the care they receive. As well as being exceptionally focused, she combines strong values with business acumen and has the ability to really motivate and inspire people.
Tori Young said:
I am thrilled to have been appointed and I am very much looking forward to the role. After three years at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, I know first-hand the quality and expertise of our staff and the specialist cancer care we provide. I look forward to working together with colleagues to continue to improve the service we provide for our patients.
