This "Stoptober", thousands of smokers will take their first step to quit smoking. It is universally recognised that if you stop smoking for 28 days, you are five times more likely to give up for good. It is also much easier to quit with the right support and a wide range of options.

As one of the UK’s leading cancer centres, it is important to us that we provide as much help as possible to our patients and staff on their journey to quit smoking.

As a result of funding from the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board and agreement with Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT), the Conversation Understanding Replacement Expertise (CURE) Smoking Cessation Team will now be supporting CCC inpatients to give up smoking from admission. They will be able to access Nicotine Replacement Therapy, along with other support mechanisms, and the CURE Team will prescribe appropriate therapy, tailored to each patient.

To kick off this initiative, CURE will have a display in the ground floor reception area of CCC-L on Thursday 26th October, and we hope that patients and staff who want to stop smoking will pay the team a visit for some friendly advice and support accessing the help they need.

The Smoke Free Liverpool team will also have a stall to assess relatives and visitors on the day, and offer Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring tests to help smokers see the level of carbon monoxide in their breath. It’s a popular tool and great to repeat the test after stopping smoking to see the decrease in CO levels.

Pop along to see what the team has to offer - especially if you are considering quitting smoking.
