My interest in dietetics started after visiting a dietitian with my grandma for her diabetes care. Seeing the impact nutrition had on her health inspired me to become a dietitian and help others.
My journey into dietetics spans over eight years, starting with a degree in the subject, followed by a Master’s degree and the clinical training needed to build my skills in practice. I worked in Nigeria for over 5 years as both a paediatric and adult dietitian across different clinical areas before moving to the UK. Along the way, I gained experience supporting patients in a range of healthcare settings, which helped shape the way I work today. Since then, I have continued my professional development and obtained the registration required to practice in the UK, and joined the Trust in April 2026 as an Oncology Dietitian.
Moving to the UK has been both exciting and challenging in equal measure. Adjusting to a new healthcare system and different ways of working pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it has also been an important part of my growth, both professionally and personally. It has helped me become more adaptable, build my confidence, and continue developing my practice in new ways.
What I find most rewarding about my role is the opportunity to make a genuine difference to people’s lives through nutrition. Supporting patients during difficult times, helping them manage the impact of treatment, and seeing the positive difference that tailored advice can make is what makes the role so fulfilling for me.
One of the things that stands out most about working at CCC is the supportive team environment. There is a real commitment to both professional and personal development, and the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care means everyone works together with the shared goal of achieving the best possible outcomes for patients. Being part of that is something I value greatly.
For anyone thinking about a career in dietetics, I would say it is a wonderful path to take if you are passionate about helping people and want to make a meaningful difference through food and nutrition. It is a career that offers variety, opportunities to work across different specialties, and the chance to keep learning while supporting patients to improve their health and quality of life.
