Gastrointestinal cancer is a general term for cancer affecting the digestive system:

  • Cancers that affect the oesophagus (foodpipe), stomach and duodenum are often called upper gastrointestinal (upper GI) cancers.
  • Cancers that affect the bowel, rectum and anus are often called lower gastrointestinal (lower GI) cancers.

Hepatobiliary (HPB) cancers affect other organs involved in digestion including the gallbladder, liver and pancreas.
