Dr Abhishek Mahajan studied at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. He was a cancer imaging fellow at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai from 2009-2011.
After completing his fellowship, he joined Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai and served until 2022 as a consultant radiologist and professor of radiology. During this tenure he took a sabbatical year and completed a masters in translational cancer medicine at King’s College London in 2014, as well three visiting observerships in Boston, Brisbane and London.
Dr Mahajan joined The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in March 2022 as a consultant radiologist with special interest in head and neck, neurological, skull base and thyroid malignancies imaging, carcinoma of unknown primary and artificial intelligence. He is also honorary senior lecturer at the University of Liverpool.
Dr Mahajan has been actively involved in research, being the principal investigator for 21 imaging projects (six focused on AI). He is currently working on establishing a head and neck cancer imaging databank and research focused on grading of extranodal extension in HPV-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
He is an active contributor to the field of artificial intelligence and cancer imaging and has authored over 440 publications. He is regularly invited to speak at specialist conferences.
