We are carrying out a major refurbishment this summer to completely redesign, modernise and upgrade the facilities in our Halton chemotherapy treatment unit (currently known as CANtreat).

The redesign and refurbishment will ensure that patients having chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other cancer treatments in Halton benefit from bright, comfortable, welcoming and modern facilities more similar to those provided in our main hospital in Liverpool which opened in 2020.

Once completed, the new treatment unit will have:

  • Extra treatment space and comfortable treatment chairs so more patients can be treated locally in Halton, instead of having to travel to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s other sites.
  • Flexible treatment bays that offer patients the choice between socialising or having more privacy.
  • Research and clinical trials facilities so patients can access trials of new treatments close to home.
  • Bright, modern, high-quality facilities designed for the next generation of cancer treatments.

Our treatment unit has now temporarily moved around the corner to Ward B3 in Halton Hospital while this work is taking place. Look out for the yellow signs directing people to Clatterbridge CANtreat on Ward B3.

Temporary move to Ward B3 

Ward B3 is just around the corner from CANtreat. To get there:

  • Use Entrance 1 (main entrance) of the Nightingale Building, Halton Hospital.
  • Walk down the corridor. 
  • Turn right just after the Chapel at signs for Ward B4 and temporary CANtreat unit.

You cannot access CANtreat from the Macmillan / Delamere entrance while we are on Ward B3. Use Entrance 1 instead. 

What to expect

  • The same great Clatterbridge CANtreat Halton team will still be caring for you.
  • There are signs explaining how to get to the new location (Ward B3).
  • The move to Ward B3 is only temporary. We will move back to the current treatment unit when it has been refurbished.
