Oncology Pharmacy

The pharmacy department is located at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre within a purpose built facility that houses five isolators and a gene therapy isolator.

The core business of the department is the production of sterile chemotherapy products for patients at the Centre, satellite clinics and private patients.

A chief pharmacist runs the department which employs 46 staff of various grades, including support staff, pharmacy technicians, specialist pharmacists, a dedicated pharmacy clerk, production assistants, student pharmacy technicians, clinical trials technicians and a chief pharmacy technician. A number of staff have had their work published in professional publications.

Other services include the organisation and management of clinical trials, such as the self-medication service and a ward pharmacy service.

Here, we assess patients’ own medication that is brought in and use it on the wards where possible. Patients are also assessed to see if they can self-administer their own medications whilst they are on the ward.
