Qualified in the University of Bristol. Initially trained in haematology in Liverpool. Subsequently trained in clinical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research where he worked as a clinical academic until 2011. Taken up the post of Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Liverpool to develop clinical academic practice at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the University.
Acknowledged leading national and international expert in clinical oncology with expertise in lung cancer and tumours of the central nervous system with 260 publications. Honorary member of many international societies and holder of Lifetime Achievement Award of ESTRO. Elected Fellow of European Academy of Cancer Sciences.
Principal academic interests include issues of patient care, development and implementation of novel technologies such as stereotactic radiotherapy and testing novel systemic and radiation therapies.
