Before joining The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust in 2014, I did my speciality training in Medical Oncology at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). Prior to that I was a clinical research fellow in Cardiff University where I obtained a research degree (MD) with a thesis titled “Pharmacogenetics of Advanced Colorectal Cancer”
I was granted two awards in relation to my research work and one in relation to my teaching skills: The 2013 Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Merit Award (USA), the 2013 NCRI Amgen Bursary Award (UK) and the Medical Directors Award for Clinical Teaching 2016- Medical Oncology (Clatterbridge Cancer Centre). Recently I was awarded entry into a research scholarship programme organised by the NIHR Clinical Research Network- North West Coast.
I hold an honorary clinical lecturer position at the University of Liverpool and am currently the UK chief investigator for an international study for patients with gastric cancer. I have also been the principle investigator for several studies at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre where I am the research lead for gastroesophageal cancers.
I have more than ten publications in peer-reviewed medical journals including the Lancet and Lancet Oncology, and have presented in many national/international cancer conferences. I also work at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where I am the lead for acute oncology and cancer of unknown primary services.
