- Use the enema, as instructed (see below).
- Allow 15 minutes for it to work. (This is often more successful if you walk about)
- When you go back to the toilet, empty your bladder and try to empty your bowels (you may only pass gas and/or solid matter)
- When back in the waiting room quickly drink ONLY 3 cups of water, then:
- Tell the receptionist when you have finished drinking
You will be scanned about 20 minutes later.
Do not empty your bladder until after the scan.
Any problems, please speak to the receptionist.
How to use the enema
Go to the toilet with the tube of enema and break off the cap.
To make it easier to insert the nozzle into your rectum, squeeze out a small drop of fluid and spread it over the nozzle. Gently insert only the nozzle fully into your back passage (rectum) and squeeze out all contents of the tube and keep squeezing the tube as you remove it. This action prevents the medication being drawn back into the nozzle.
Empty your bladder at this time if needed. Wash and dry your hands before leaving the toilet.
