We were so excited to welcome back the hugely popular Liverpool Cathedral Abseil and to cheer on our incredibly brave supporters, who took on the 150ft descent over the infamous West Door of Britain’s largest Cathedral.

Here to tell us more about why you should take part in the next Liverpool Cathedral Abseil is our very own Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator, Nikki Best who took on the Liverpool Cathedral Abseil in 2018.

"I have worked at Clatterbridge for over 10 years, working in many department throughout the hospital at our Wirral site. In the last four years I have been working at the Charity, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. My job is to liaise with staff and patients to help fundraise within our hospital’s organising fun events such as; Vintage Tea parties , Christmas Event day with live Bands, Choirs, raffles, tombola and Christmas knitwear stall, along with working on a building awareness about the Charity and the great things we do.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is a wonderful place to work. Over the years I have worked with dedicated, amazing colleagues that contribute to give our patients and their families the very best support and treatment we can. It is amazing what goes on behind the scenes to make the patient experience the best it can be. Our hospital aims to save lives and we are so privileged to have this wonderful service in our region. We have been asked last minute to organise weddings by ward staff and it’s amazing what can be done within 48 hours’ notice to make the Bride and Grooms’ day as special as it can be. I feel very proud to work at the hospital, knowing I’m helping people with Cancer.

As I work within the fundraising department I wanted to help raise funds for our Charity and what better way to do this was than to confront your fears! So I decided to do this by abseiling down one of Liverpool’s most iconic buildings - Liverpool Cathedral. I was petrified on the day, but the guys that assisted me were just brilliant. The views were just breath-taking on the way down and there was also a little van selling Prosecco, so to celebrate my achievement I treated myself to a couple of tipples. I raised around £1500 for the Charity and it was great to give something back to a worthy cause.

If anyone is in doubt about taking part in the Liverpool Cathedral Abseil, be brave - do it. It is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. You will feel a huge sense of achievement, and at the same time you’ll be raising funds for a fabulous cause."
