As the weather heated up, our supporters were taking their fundraising to the next level and were gearing up for some incredible Summer events including 19-year old Holly Patterson, who took on the 2022 Parish Walk on the Isle of Man.
Whilst Holly did not need direct care from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, one of her close friends received care following their diagnosis for Acute Myeloid Leukemia during the height of the Covid-19 restrictions.
“Pamela went for a routine blood test, and within 24-hours she was flown to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre where her diagnosis was confirmed. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, she had to travel alone and had to spend a great deal of time alone. After the first round of chemotherapy, Pamela become very unwell and was transferred to the ICU. Her immediate family were able to see her and spend some time with her and the incredible care shown by the ICU team and the Clatterbridge nurses will never be forgotten.
When Pamela was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, it was a huge shock to everyone; it came completely out of the blue but we were fortunate that The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre was accessible, and that she was able to be treated and looked after so well which then allowed her to return home fit and well.
Clatterbridge is such a special place; there is sadness and loss, but alongside this there is happiness and no matter what there is always positivity. The clinical staff at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre are amazing, always putting the patient first and provide such a high level of care and passion.
I chose to support Clatterbridge Cancer Charity because I believe that they are an incredible charity, and the outcome of Pamela’s story really shows that it can happen to anyone. This June I completed the Parish Walk, with the aim of getting to Peel and completing 32.5 miles in aid of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
Whilst training for the event I have come to realise how enjoyable it is to walk in the open air, and I hope to challenge myself and take my fundraising even further. Many of us are affected directly or indirectly by cancer. Knowing that the best care possible is available should be a comfort to us all and it deserves all the support we can give.”
Thanks to supporters like Holly we are able to continue providing the best possible care to cancer patients across Merseyside, Cheshire, the Isle of Man and beyond and are able to improve the support we offer at a time when they need us the most.
