2020 was a tough year for everyone, including Clatterbridge Cancer Charity whose events and fundraising activities have had to be suspended due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Funds raised by the Charity help to support cancer services and help to offer the best care possible to cancer patients throughout Merseyside and Cheshire.
In a bid to support the Charity at this time, Patients Service Co-Ordinator, Shelly Birch, Chemotherapy Support Worker, Clare Kelly and Chemotherapy Nurse, Debby Henery decided to take on the ultimate adrenaline challenge and take on Skydive Sunday in March 2021. Shelly, Clare and Debby all work for the Clatterbridge Private Clinic, which was launched in 2013 and provides specialist treatments including radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy to patients throughout the North West.
“I have always wanted to do a Skydive, and this was the perfect opportunity to raise some much needed funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. It was an exciting and terrifying experience, but when I think how a patient feels going through cancer treatment, especially during a Pandemic, taking part in a Skydive suddenly doesn’t seem quite as frightening. I loved taking part in the Skydive Sunday event; we all love our jobs, and knowing how much of a difference we make to a patients’ life is hugely rewarding. We’re did the Skydive to raise money for the Charity, but we’re also did the Skydive for every single patient we’ve met and treated as well” says Shelly.
The Clatterbridge Private Clinic reinvests almost half of its profits back into the NHS, and treats 16 different cancers including Eye Cancer, Lung Cancer and Stomach Cancer. We loved seeing Shelly, Clare and Debby taking to the skies and cheering them on as they glide back down to earth.
