This week, we marked World Cancer Day, an opportunity to highlight the signs and symptoms of cancer, as well as raise awareness of the work that's going on across the globe to diagnose, treat and cure cancer. 

BBC Radio Merseyside broadcast a series of interviews throughout the week with our patients and staff, talking about some of the initiatives that are going on to support people with cancer right here in Cheshire and Merseyside.

Monday: Julie Moss was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and received radiotherapy treatment at our Wirral site. She's taken part in a video for other patients, explaining the process of breast radiotherapy treatment. Listen to Julie's interview 1:35 into the programme. 

Tuesday: Our Deputy Chief Executive Joan Spencer went on the show yesterday to talk about the fact that cancer patients in the region are living longer than ever before following a diagnosis. Her interview is 2:20 into the programme. 

Wednesday: Senior Principle Scientist Henry Carver and Radiotherapy Treatment Expert Practitioner Rachael O'Sullivan who took the BBC on a tour of our Liverpool hospital's new Varian Halcyon Hypersight linac. Their interview is 1:35 into the programme. 

Thursday: Director of Stem Cell Transplantation Dr Muhammad Saif chatted to Helen about CAR-T, the revolutionary new treatment being offered to blood cancer patients for the first time in the region. He also spoke about what a typical day looks like for him and his hopes for the future. His interview is around 1:37 into the programme. 

Friday: Rounding off the week, was Maureen and Natalie. Breast Cancer Support Worker Maureen has been sending motivational postcards to patients, like Natalie, with the help of funding from Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. The two ladies chatted about the postcards and how they've helped Natalie following her diagnosis in 2023. You can listen 1:38 into the programme.
