Do you want to learn more about clinical trials – and have a free lunch while you do?

A friendly and informal event is being held next week to give people more information about cancer research and clinical trials – and why they are so important for cancer patients.

You can hear from cancer doctors and scientists and chat to them about the amazing breakthroughs in cancer treatment and care. Everyone is welcome, whether you have been directly affected by cancer or not.

The event is on Monday, April 22nd, 2024, 11am to 3pm at The Florrie, 377 Mill Street, Liverpool L8 4RF.

Please register in advance by emailing livecmc@liverpool.ac.uk or texting 07341 796 000.

The event is organised by Liverpool ECMC, a partnership between the University of Liverpool and The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

What will happen on the day:

Arrive any time from 10:30am for tea, coffee and biscuits

11am - 12pm

1. What is cancer and why isn’t there a one-size-fits-all cure?

2. What are clinical trials and why are they so important?

3. What research and trials are we doing here in Liverpool?

12pm - 1pm – Lunch (provided for all, free of charge)

1pm - 2pm

4. Turning science from the lab into treatments in the hospital

5. The patient experience – talks from a trials nurse and a patient about what being involved in a trial is actually like

6. How you can become involved in clinical research – where to find information on trials and why the patient voice is vital

2pm - 3pm – Question and answer session

If you’d like to stay a bit longer, you can chat with and ask questions to cancer doctors from The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and scientists from the University of Liverpool.

You don’t need any knowledge or experience of cancer or clinical trials to come along – in fact, we’re hoping you’ll learn something useful!

Spaces are limited to 100 people, so please make sure you register in advance, by emailing livecmc@liverpool.ac.uk or texting 07341 796 000. Please also RSVP if you would prefer a link to view the sessions online.

You can claim back reasonable travel expenses by completing a form on the day. Petrol costs can be reimbursed at 45p per mile. Please bring receipts for all other forms of transport. Payments will be made into your bank account within 2 weeks.
