Massive congratulations to our Speech and Language Therapy team (SLT) who have just been shortlisted in the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer's (CAHPO) Awards 2024.
The team have been recognised for developing the UK’s only fully integrated specialist speech and language therapy service for people with head and neck cancer.
It’s a partnership between The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Liverpool University Hospitals – staff work as one team to provide seamless care for patients across different hospital sites and in the community.
Specialist speech and language therapy plays a crucially important role for people with cancer of the mouth, throat, tongue and other areas of the head and neck – cancers that are three times more common in parts of our region than the national average.
The team support people whose ability to communicate and/or swallow has been affected by their cancer or treatment such as surgery and radiotherapy. Working as one team means patients now have better access to specialist support and are cared for by the same team throughout their treatment and recovery.
They have been shortlisted in the AHP Innovation and Improvement in Integrated Care Systems Awards. They will find out on Thursday 10th October whether they have won.
