James Thomson, Director of Finance at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Finance Director of the Year Award at the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s (HFMA) annual awards.

The HFMA is the UK’s professional body for those working in finance within the healthcare sector, promoting the highest professional standards and innovation in financial management across the country’s health economy.

James joined the Trust in 2018 and has been instrumental in a number of successful initiatives over the past five years including the acquisition and development of what has since become Paddington Community Diagnostic Centre. James’s work meant the centre was up and running in just a matter of weeks so patients could begin receiving vital tests and scans quickly.

Alongside his role at CCC, James’ took on the joint position of Director of Finance at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital earlier this year. He also sits on the board of our subsidiaries, PharmaC and PropCare, and the Clatterbridge Private Clinic joint venture. James also works on projects to improve the financial systems and processes of hospital Trusts throughout Cheshire and Merseyside.

Of James’s shortlisting, Chief Executive Liz Bishop said: “Congratulations to James on this well-deserved shortlisting, which recognises the top finance directors in the country for their financial management and leadership.

“James always puts the wellbeing of our patients at the forefront of his work. He has been instrumental in a number of initiatives that have had a direct impact on patient care and the wellbeing of our staff. He leads a fantastic team and I’m delighted his work at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has been acknowledged in this way.”

Winners will be announced at the HMFA Awards in December in London.
